Wink of the Lighthouse
03:48
|
|||
See a seabird
Silent as the air
Surging off the ocean
Stoic and lithe
Solemn seabird
Summons a second wind
Longs for land abandoned
Hiding her homesick songs
Tell me that restless runs in the family
Maybe then I'll feel the instinct sinking in
Oh, I'll take up the torch and try so to not be the
Single seabird
Weary of wandering
Sick of the sailing aimless
Pining for something solid,
More substantial
Tell me I don't exist but for traveling
Read me the rulebook that Nature penned
Oh, it's only when I'm nesting I feel like I'm meant to be.
Reframe me
Shape me
Something right
I'm dreaming of the line in the sky that charts the flight away
Lend me a lift
I honour the shifting winds and I let them
Still me
Grant me
Safe passage home
I'm dreaming of the wink of the lighthouse teasing me close
Calling me, distant
Invoking an echo and in it there's something
Haunting and true
Inherent and new
A staggered release, and in pieces
I know my
Name
I want to mould to what it makes me
It's a birth, a return, it's a word that escapes me
Oh, I want the scene it plans to set me
The self-portrait it's painting me
Coming home
It's a voice, it's a tuning that pleasures and aches me
Oh, it's the arena that it's building me
The memoir it dedicates to me
Coming home
I'm coming home
Oh, secret songbird
Trill your siren call
Your love letter to the ocean
Warmest regards,
Forever and ever and ever and ever

Chemistry
03:29
|
|||
Matching, corresponding
Look at our shadows in the sea
You're me
Baby, halfling baby
Holding your finger in my hand
Big friend
Look at my face, but never so close as to scare yourself blind
Look at my eyes, our sequences closely aligned inside
Oh, Daddy-o's ego maligned
As mine
What then, in the mirror she finds?
Sly and brimming,
And we're spinning our memories upside-down
Lying through our grins right before
The floor drops out
Oh, chemistry makes fools of us again
Fallen, how you've failed us
Dangerous as I'd never dreamed
You're mean
Complex, I mean
I'd pictured your record was clean and easy
I studied your eyes
Surprised you were blind to a realer me
Oh, Daddy-o's grim pecadillos match mine
Twisted as parallel lines
Clever, winning
And you're spinning my memories upside-down
Grinning through a lie right before
The floor drops out
Oh, chemistry makes fools of us again
Matching, only faintly
Two silhouettes upon the shore

The Beach
03:15
|
|||
So this was at the beach,
Laughing and weaving a tale in our path
Lit from this angle, we're cast as more than
Imitations of ourselves
I hear you so hard, I forget that I was listening
There's sand in our shoes and a breeze in our bed hair
And in this state, I see that we have learned to be easy again
I blinked for years and I missed it happening
Time made a lover of me,
Made an "us" from the sweat as it dried on our brows
I brew us a breakfast of scraps around the house
Delicious elixir, it's conjuring the past
And yet I couldn't say that it's the same as remembering
Familiar genre, but the casting is better
Letter for letter for letter,
All my words keep spelling out this
Love
There is here
There is now
That's significant somehow
On our backs in the garden we lie
'Neath the last of the winter sky
Build a lyre of litter and vine
And I'll whistle the wind through
You broke us on the beach
No, that isn't true
But it's scarcely a lie
Maybe I'm recovered, or maybe I'm afraid
To look between the moments
Where we're making it easy again,
And credit is due, you are better, I'm better
Let it alone 'til we're ready
Hold this with me, level-headed
Love,
There is here
There is now
And it's beautiful somehow
Hand in hand in the garden we lie
'Neath a twinkle of spring in the sky
Build a lyre of litter and vine
And I'll whistle the wind
Through

Dialects
04:21
|
|||
Fall in step across the globe and somehow I feel the
Cobblestones buck through my sneakers,
And you, the sand between your toes.
The tune in your head, I'm composing.
Some idea you meant for me, sent to me, or did we dream it?
Print your pages, sign your name,
In some manner I'll do the same
In splinters, notes and paper clippings.
We punctuate the space between our breaths, and
We're refining our dialects lately.
Ever notice the way we say
"Yesterday" differently?
Pride arrives bittersweet
Some for you, some for me
Greedy distance between
Draws on blood that links our brains and bodies.
What is the where?
There's the mystery, children.
Where is the when?
Then you'll know.
When is the how?
Pose those sweet wee secrets.
How a goodbye?
You know why.
There's no lesson to learn, but only
Pray the present is kind to us.
Twins and twisters
Sacred sinners,
Thrashing out a rhythm of grief and bliss on
Bone-tired backs and battered fingers,
We're happier than ever and nursing sadness.
I'll be here when you're ready, lady.
Lie in wait 'til the fates allow
Then and now
Listen for me.

Broken Blueprint
02:42
|
|||
I wear your hair
And eyes
Sometimes I hear your laugh in mine
Look at your teeth
Your smile
All while your voice escapes my open mouth
I see your love
And all your longing
What belongs to me and how much is yours?
I've got your strength
Your care
I very nearly lived your life as mine
I want your love, but not your longing
Is it wrong that I'm needing more?
I'm learning
How to talk, how to touch, how to be in love
So meet me in the middle,
Is that not what you made me for?
No, no
Let me grow from
What you've shown me
You made the most skillful teacher I've ever known
Never hide away your fault lines,
Draw them out
Write their names in silver ink,
Lay your struggles down
Gift to me your broken blueprint,
I'll be fine
I'll refine your design
Bolder, line by line
I'll keep what's strong
I'll keep courageous
Turn that longing into trial
I'm learning
How to take, how to break, how to make a life
I'll show you if you'll welcome
How I differ from you now
Listen
Watch me grow from
All you've shown me,
Made me the most skillful teacher I've ever known
